Go straight through the stop sign and continue on Union Hill Road through a new housing development. Follow this to the power lines. At mile 5.3, turn right off Union Mill Road and ride to the power lines, heading west to Centerville Road. The trail crosses Compton Road at mile 6.4. The trail passes the small fenced-in power station on the right. Continue straight across Bay Valley Lane. At mile 7.7 the trail comes to Centerville Road. Turn right onto the paved bike path back to the school. At mile 7.8 the ride returns to the Centerville Elementary School.

How to get there:

Where Compton/ Power Lines cross are the gnarliest fukcing trails in N. VA. Money back guarantee. Take power lines south from referenced point, then enter woods on R) 1/4 mi up, or just before power lines cross next road. Stuff is rooty, rocky and up/ down. closest thing to Gambrill that N. VA has to offer.

I live next to the trail and ride it frequently. It used to be a much better trail but no one maintains it now and it has become overgrown in spots and has several fallen trees across the path. There are 2 places to extend the trail (1) on Union Mill (Balmoral) just past the power lines on the right side is a short trail with ramps that a few daring riders built (2) continue past the power lines for about a mile and you will come to a bridge, turn right just past the bridge and enter Bull Run park. Riding is allowed on a few trails, read signs.

I rode it last weekend- started off of Pleasant Vally and took it from there-well it's been sometime and there was huge fence wehere I use to start by the SMALL lake- so I cut through the homes that back to it... the trail was fine...am I on the wrong trail as it was not overgrown--there's a buffalo farm back there---anyone know if it's still there?

Could be a a really great trail, but not many riders some parts are gone. Rode it last week and had to forge way for about 1/2 mile through waste deep grass. still fun, some great climbs, there is a creek at one part that can be flooded and you have to deep to ride across.

I live next to the power lines. This used to be a great trail but no one rides it anymore and its overgrown. Just tried to ride it last week and couldn't even find where the trail used to be.

The trail was good times. Some nice little single-track and pretty decent descents. Some parts weren't really obvious though. Good overall.

Overall good ride! Good mix of hills, pavement, small creeks and mud (when it's been raining). You might even see a beaver or two, as I did.
