Trail Description:
From the parking lot ride up the gravel hill for roughly a quarter mile. Then turn left and descend. stay to the right on the next junction, pass over the dirt mound. At 1.7 pass by the old cabin and climb on the other side. 3.1mi reach the gravel road again, ride up it until 4.9 when you reach Fishhook flats trail head, #1378. 6.3 start switchbacks. Its rolling until 7.2. At 8.3 cross a large stream. look for a sign on a tree that says #1377 N, Taneum to the right. Cross multiple streams in the next 4mi. At 13.7 cross directly across the gravel road. A 14.5 turn right and descend. Look of the Taneum junction sign and turn right. this will put you back at the car.
How to get there:
From Seattle take I-90 to exit 101 and turn right. At the top of the small hill turn right. Continue on this road, it will change to Taneum rd. stay to the right of all intersections. when the road turns to gravel turn left and cross the small bridge. park on the left.

Forget climbing directly up the trail from the trailhead, and just pedal up the FS road to the Fishhook Flats sign. The trail surface in the first mile or two from the trailhead has been churned to powder and loose rock by the motorcycles.
That said, this is a superb ride, if you are an XC rider. DH riders will not find this satisfying, because there are many rollers on the lower section which require pedaling up short climbs. The route description refers to multiple streams. It's actually just one stream, and the trail crosses it about 12 times on nice new(ish) bridges.
And like the guy below says, don't take the road back to the car. The trail continues on the other side of the road at the big switchback for at least another half mile of single track, which drops out of the trees right at the parking area.

Consider this trail in three legs. The first is a reasonable climb up the taneum s. fork. At the main gravel road, start your second leg by turning left onto #3322,pass meadows, left on right onto fishhook, cross road and continue on sick climbs/walks. A signed junction will remind you that you're on fishhook and begin the sweetest single track downhill thus far. Sweetness ebbs and flows with evil short climbs. Your first wooden bridge begins the third leg, the best, thank satan, though while you have 1000 feet to descend back to your gas burner, there's still lots of (easy) climbing between smooth single track descents which surprisingly aren't completely rutted by motorcycles. Don't take the dirt road to finish, as the final trail #1326 will be faster and more satisfying than any double track. I cussed this trail out, and then gave in to its bliss.

An alright trail. Way to much climbing involved. I ended up turning around and headed back to my truck after 8 miles. There was also alot of motorcycles around.

I was not impressed. The uphill was a solid challenge, but the downhill was not worth the climb. After all that climbing (and driving from Seattle), I wanna bomb a nasty singletrack back down to my truck. Instead, most of the elevation loss was wasted on an annoying up and down trail that meanders alongside a creek. This is also a popular area for dirtbikers, which combined with the lack of exciting downhill, makes me think there are much better trails worthy of the drive time.

I would give this trail a 5-star except for the excess amount of water and mud! Unfortunately, it rained 5" on Snoqualmie yesterday and some of it got to Cle Elum. The road up is an easy climb, the trail down was the muddiest, wettest, slipperyest trail I've ever ridden. Puddles averaged a foot deep and there were hundreds of them. The mud was clay covered by pine needles, very misleading. Your tires would slip out from under you so fast you didn't have time to scream. My wife fell into a puddle so big she had to swim out of it. She won't be coming back to this trail, but I will on a drier day. Thanks to the guys we met from Elite Sports in Yakima, they made our day!

I forgot to mention the 4 new bridges built over the creek crossings! I will give that a 5 star!

oh yes, extremely easy. in a group of four each of us bragged how easy it was as we crashed into bee-hives, pile drived into rocks cracking a helmet, popped three tires, and misjudged a turn onto the bridge which put ____ face down into the creek. perfect cure for a hangover, we'll be back. riggerous trail!

Fun ride. Not an easy ride, but no too tough either. Plan on getting your feet wet there are several creek crossings. Took a huge header and seperated my shoulder requiring surgery on my first ride here. Be careful!!!!!

From Seattle, it makes sense to take exit 93 (Elk Heights rd.), cross to north side of freeway, follow signs east to Taneum Rd (about 4 miles) then cross back to south side of freeway and turn right (west) on Taneum crk rd. and go about 9 miles to road 3300 (go past road 3330). This puts you at the Taneum Ridge trailhead and the gravel road that begins the Fishhook flats trail description.

Easy? I don't think so. The climb is long and steep and the decent is rutted motorcycle trail that is a challenge for many. The stream crossings are fun, but not easy either. Awesome trail!
