Forest Service Road with great views of the Smoky Mountains

Trail Description:
US Forest Service Road 2540 begins at the gate right off of State Highway 28. Head north on the Forest Service Road up a hill. During the ride, logging roads will branch off of the forest road, continue straight on the main road. The trail will climb up a very long gradual climb. Your efforts will more than pay off as you enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains. As if the views were not enough, an eye watering descent awaits you on the other side. Nearing Fontana Lake you will have ridden approximately 8 miles. At this point turn around and head back the way you came.

How to get there:
From Bryson City head south on US 19 for 4 miles. At the fork continue on US-19/US-74 for five miles and then turn right onto State Highway 28. Go approximately 6.5 miles and look for US Forest Service Road 2540 on the right. Park alongside State Highway 28.
