Ride Summary:
Single track heaven.
Trail Description:
So many trails so close to the city that Mike built. It will take you days of riding to get familiar with the area. Single track, single track and more single track. Be sure to pay extremely close attention to where you are going or you might get lost.
How to get there:
Located just off the intersection of Hwy 294 and I-55.

I live in the Chicago area and this is the best trail system I have found within 80 miles of Chicago. Lots of single track and it is easy to get lost, but you can spend the whole day here. The Palos Sag Forest Preserve is located off of I55 and South on Kingery Hwy (Rt. 83) Park near Bullfrog Lake.

This is not SAG or Palos. This is Waterfall Glen which is next to Argonne National Lab. You can enter at the Waterfall Glen Sign on Cass Ave. or go further down Cass Ave to 91st street. Here you will find another wide gravel walking path. Off of this path are a number of single track runs. The best runs are to the west of the gravel path. Be warned: all of the good runs are on Argonne Lab Property and since 9/11 the security is super high. Sensors everywhere. My dad went hiking in that part and was stopped by armed guards who took all of his info and told him to turn around and go back to the main path. With that said you can rip through there at a hell of a clip and have a great ride. You'll most likely end up at the Indian Temple on Lemont Road. If you're familiar with the area you'll know what I'm talking about if not look it up in mapquest. It's a good idea to have an idea about the are because that part of the forest is quite dense. We used to get lost back the

This is referring to the SAG Valley trails which are connected to the famous Palos trails. Be careful: many trails are off-limits to bikes and sometimes heavily patrolled by rangers!

Horrible directions, as a matter of fact I ended up biking at Waterfall Glen trails, which is right off of 55 and Cass Ave (from the city just take 55 towards St.Louis and take the Cass Ave exit;south and you will see it on your right). The unpaved trail is used for bikers, hikers and cross-country skiing during the snow season. The trail runs about 9 miles with downhills and quite a few uphills...but gives you alternative routes which seemed a little confusing. Towards the 6 mile mark, if you cut Right on the gravel path there is a monster hill on your left, which is where all the fun begins. Kind of hard to figure out if there is actually a path but that's what makes it fun. Anyway, worth a try.
