Ride Summary:
This is a very easy, gentle ride - slightly more difficult than paved roads
Trail Description:
All but the hiking trail is an earth berm unpaved road, usually surfaced with shell or ground coquina. There can be a lot of bird watchers walking around, too, so remember that you're sharing the park. This seems to be a site used to dispose of Orlando's treated wastewater, but I didn't realize this until I was leaving; it is a nice looking area. 18 miles of berms surround 17 wetland cells, in which the reclaimed water is naturally treated.
How to get there:
Drive 40 minutes east of downtown Orlando on State Road 50 to Christmas, Fl. Go north (left) 2.3 miles on Ft. Christmas Road (County Road 420). Turn right (east) onto Wheeler Road (unpaved), for 1.5 miles. Parking area will be on your left.
Additional Notes:
7 a.m. until ½ hour before sunset, seven days a week, January 21 - September 30 (Closed October 1 - January 20).

I stumbled upon this site a week ago, and I just had to say what a lucky acnciedt for me. This brings back wonderful memories of long ago. My dad was a landscaper with a large property full of trees. We had many deer come in and bed down in the white pine, and we would sit out back and watch the show for hours after my dad put in a salt lick and a feeder for them. We had our own wildlife sanctuary, just as you do. At first, Daddy built a blind so we could watch and not disturb the animals, but as time went on, they became accustomed to our presence as long as we didn't get too close!Thank you so much for all your time and effort, and looking forward to seeing that turkey again!

If you head east on 50 from Orlando it's more like a 1 hour drive - 23 miles from Titusville (east coast). The trail that we went on was a 2.5 mile dirt road around some lakes. We did see plenty of birds and 2 alligators. Not really my cup of tea but it was pretty.

Thank goodness those 10 foot gators move when you ride up on them.
