Ride Summary:
A very treacherous trail. It is very steep at times and tree roots and loose rocks make traction difficult.

Trail Description:
Even though the surrounding scenery may be serene and peaceful this trail is anything but that. The Overland Trail to Kamenga Canyon twists and turns like a snake through this scenic section of the Tahuya State Forest. The trail charges straight up and over the low ridges that characterize this area then drops like a lead ball down the opposite side. Wheels spin out in the loose gravel and rocks, and roots will send you flying if you let your attention wander.

How to get there:
Drive Highway 3 to the town of Belfair, then head west on NE Clifton Lane, following the Belfair State Park signs. After about 500 feet turn right on Old Belfair Highway and follow it north for 3.4 miles before making a left turn on Bear-Creek-Dewatto Road. After 3.2 miles the road divides; stay left and continue toward Dewatto for another 2.3 miles. Turn left at Elfendahl Pass Road and park at the Toonerville Campground and Picnic Area.

Additional Notes:
A true northwest trail!

First of all, the directions to this trail are crap. Take the exit off of Highway 3 south by Safeway towards Belfair State Park. Drive past the park and turn right onto Belfair-Tahuya Rd. Drive up the hill and take a right onto Elfendahl Pass Rd. The Toonerville Campground is now closed. The proper trailhead is located in the gravel parking lot just past Goat Ranch Rd. on your right. Follow the "trail" sign to the right once you have parked and are on your bike. There will be a sign labeled "Overland Trail". At all trail intersections, follow the blue diamonds on the trees and the blue arrows. All trails in the forest are labeled with signs showing mileage. As of August 5, 2003, the Overland trail closes about 3.5 miles into it near Scarification Rd. because of "logging hazards". This trail is very poor for mountain biking. The steepness combined with the deep rocks, ruts, gravel and dust will want to make any biker turn around and head home. The trail winds up steep hills that force y

OK, I see my entry was cut off so I'll finish it...you to walk your bike. This trail is used highly by off-road-vehicles and in my opinion is a waste of time. I couldn't stay on my bike half the time because off-road-vehicles have torn up the ground to make virtual "mini-canyons". Instead of taking that treacherous trail back, I took Goat Ranch Rd. If you live in the Port Orchard/Bremerton area, I would recommend the "Banner Forest" trails to these any day. Trust me, I read the reviews and descriptions for this trail and I decided to check it out. I wish I would have gone somewhere else.

This trail is very cool. Nice challenging sections, good AM ride for pratice, no real good DH, but the singletrack and SBs can challenge the best

Thanks to all you dirt bikers that have been careful around our horses! If we ride together peacefully, we can stay united against those who wish to limit non-foot uses in our public lands.A horse person
