Ride Summary:
A short challenging climb and tricky fast descent.

Trail Description:
This is a loop trail running along the ridges and overlooking central Oahu. There are beautiful views of Pearl Harbor and the Halawa Valley. Start at the top next to the restrooms and go in a counter-clockwise fashion. You can turn around at the end by the campground and ride the trail in reverse. Parts of the trail are bordered by cliffs, be careful. After rains the trail is dangerous and prone to erosion. Do not ride when wet.

How to get there:
From Honolulu International Airport, head West on H1 and exit at the Aiea off ramp (exit 13A). Take the second stoplight and turn right on Aiea Heights Drive. Follow Aiea Heights Drive all the way to the top (almost 3miles) until you reach Kea'iwa Heiau State Park. The trailhead is next to the restrooms at the top of the loop drive.

Additional Notes:
Do not ride when wet or raining. Beautiful views on nice days.

This trail has a lot of root where you have to either push or carry the bike. The downhill side is a lot of fun because it's so drug out and the root aren't so bad and become fun to navigate. Beautiful sightseeing along the way. Hot asian birds running aroud.

This is not a mountain biking trail. Due to roots, rocks, etc., I spent more time hiking than riding my bike. It would be a great hiking trail, but if you are looking for an uphill that is a good workout and a downhill to get your adrenaline going, this is not the trail for you. We had locals hiking the trail that asked why we would even bring a bike on this trail. NOT recommended for mountain biking.

The washed out, root covered up-hill start has you under you bike instead of on it most of the time. But the quick and tight down-hill is fun and very worth it. However I wouldn't recommend this trail for beginners. But I had a blast

Eh, ride with rain or shine. Great trail. So what if you have to carry your bike in some places. You can ride over the roots man! Giddyup!

This trail is in extremely poor condition. It is a great trail for hiking but not biking, in several sections there are an insane amount of roots that require you to carry your bike across. I counted about 16 downed trees within the 4.2 mile loop that you again have to carry your bike over. There are some beautiful lookouts but stay on foot for this one.

Aiea heights was a pretty sweet ride even on the crappiest bike made, a columbia trailhead sport, worst bike ever made. Anyways took me a little while to get over all of the erosion and fallen trees but it had some good long parts to ride. Plan on carrying your bike most the way. Awesome when it rains, even if they say not to. Make sure you have good tires and plenty of water to clean off your brakes, because they will get gunked up fast. otherwise good trail. havent gone back since i got my new schwinn mesa gsd. Plan on it though. MTB for life.

decent, but recently lost a large tree that created a pretty scary pit. expect to cary your bike at times. definitely a don't-ride-when-muddy. also you can expect to take some spills. lots of hikers. ride safe. 11/8/05

This trail is the best by far on the island. Lots of tech. stuff, great down hill, and plenty of places to wipe out. don't ride when wet. see ya on the trail!
