Ride Summary:
This trail is a 19 mile downhill blast.
Trail Description:
The trail goes from the Timberline Lodge all the way down to the town of Rhododendron. You can find the top of the trailhead just west of the Magic Mile Chairlift. Unless you are a power climber you will want to leave a car in Rhododendron.
How to get there:
From Portland head East on Hwy 26. You will pass through Rhododendron. If you are using a shuttle system, leave one car here. Continue East on 26 and follow the signs to the Timberline Lodge.

We rode this trail twice now. Once we parked one vehicle at Summit ski area and took Crosstown to Pioneer Bridal trail down to Tollgate and we all had no troubles, even my Wife. There are some steep ascents but not too long. The second time we parked the extra vehicle at Timberline and took the Alpine Trail down to Crosstown. HOLY CRAP, I haven't seen so many front flips in my life. It was carnage. I did not crash, nor my buddy but the "PROS" just used too much front brake where they needed to run it out. P.S. Clip ins are dangerous on Alpine trail!!!! Next time we try the glade:0)

My favorite way to do this is park at Toll Gate park then take Still Creek up to Trillium, rest by the lake then go to Gov't Camp and catch the Crosstown Trail at Summit snow park. It's a great ride down from there. I worked on creating the Crosstown working for the Forest Service in '93.

Take my advice, if you are shuttling this trail- dont park your car at the dairy queen, park it a couple miles up at the big crooked chain-up area. You'll see where the trail ends up on the left side. The only thing on the other side of the highway is a miserable, flat doubletrack consisting of 5 inch round rocks. It's more like a jeep trail.

First, a note of clarification: PBT does not start at Timberline. Is there a trail there? Yes, but don't confuse yourself by looking for the PBT. Here is how I like to ride this one.Park at Camp Creek CG off of highway 26. Behind the small parking area is a bridge that leads to the Still Creek trail. Cruise the Still Creek Trail's smooth track through a lush forest and pop out on the Still Creek Forest Road. Earn your upcoming downhill by climbing this for about 7-8 miles. It's a long, not so steep middle ringer. When you get to the top, take a breather at Trillium Lake and enjoy the views. From here, ride through the campground and come out on highway 26. Now you've got options. You'll see a sign for Timberline Lodge--follow that and you have a mean 6 mile road climb with a hell of a payoff. At the top you can access the Glade Trail (the one this site mistakenly labels as the PBT). Cruise down the Glade and

Easily one of the funnest trails in the Northwest.Afew short climbs in the middle of the trail.Don't let that fool you, this ride is mostly screaming downhill! The best way to ride this is by shuttle by parking at the dairy queen and shuttling the other car up to the trailhead(across from ski bowl west).

These directions are bunk so get a map and use it. The Pioneer Brindle Trail is only a small portion of what is described here. You are actually only on the actual Pioneer Brindle Trail for about half of the ride. It is not 19 miles, more like 15. It is also not completely singletrack, the beginning uses a slope and is more like doubletrack. The end is also not even close to singletrack and more like a rocky annoyingly boring road. The best part of the trail is when you finally reach the actual Pioneer Brindle Trail, which has a few banked switchbacks and could actually be described as single track. The descent is technical at the beginning (loose rock and boulders to go around), but the rest could be ridden by a beginner. There are also a few uphills so the 100% downhill claim is a bit deceiving. It is more like 95% downhill. How dare they lie about this!

Great downhill run. Make sure you turn on the crosstown trail before you hit government camp.

Five of my buddies and myself rode down Pioneer Bridel Trail; it was totally awesome. We've never had a better time riding. It was full of all differnt kinds of terrain, from real rocky, to really soft dirt, killer turns, and totally great jumps. All but two of us ate dirt at least once on this ride. I, myself, recommend this ride for everyone unless you're too chicken for a great time. Ride on from Cody Crash.

This trail runs into the Glade trail approx. 7 miles downhill from the lodge. A word of caution, this is easily one of the most difficult trails for steep and rocky decents. If you want a ride companion greg.w.snyder@worldnet.att.net
