Ride Summary:
A maze of trails on fast hardpack singletrack.

Trail Description:
The state forest has about 15 miles of gravel roads and trails. The Harbison trails have a bit of everything. Trails are marked and are easily navigated. Look for some fast downhills off the firebreak and Mid Mountain Trail for more technical riding. Locals say "Spiderwoman" and "Harbison Bluff" sections of Mid Mountain are favorites. They aren't marked so keep your eyes open for them. Hammerheads will want to do 2 or 3 laps to really get a work out but first timers can enjoy Harbison Forest as well.

How to get there:
Take I-26 to Harbison Blvd. Head the opposite direction from the mall, which can be seen from either side of the highway. Turn right onto Broad River Rd. Park in the main parking lot to Harbison State Forest, which is about 1/4 mile on the left. There is a small trail fee.

Additional Notes:
There is a day usage fee and poor conditions after a heavy rain.

Great place to ride. Most intersections have maps posted otherwise the trails are marked very well. Several miles of single track and some short "grunt" climbs that are fun. Not very technical, except for rock garden in spider woman. Overall a fun place to ride and very well kept. You can't expect much better for Columbia, SC area. The closest mountains are 2 hours away.

The Friends of Harbison State Forest maintain the trails at this park. They are a mountain bike friendly group and appear to host mountain bike related activities.

Is there a group/club that rides at Harbison trail near Columbia, SC? I'd like to join the group.

After riding Dupont state park for a couple of days, I was glad to have short climbs, and smaller technical. I enjoyed it and I am driving two hours today to do it again.

I was on business in Columbia and always take my bike. I checked in at the rangers office to see about the trails. After having read a review or two I thought I'd try spiderwoman. The rangers saw this bald guy and said that spiderwoman was very technical even for walking. Don't count us over 50 crowd out of the pack. It was a good trail and would recommend it for anyone visiting the area. I didn't like the $5 fee but it supports a worthy cause. There were several school groups there doing the environmental and nature thing. The trail is not that technical. I had no trouble and cleaned everything but a small rock garden about halfway in. Didn't ride any of the other trails except the one that accesses spiderwoman. I'd say they've done a good job with construction despite the fact that a good bit of the more technical parts are off camber. I live in Brevard so I'm used to nice trails. I would go back and enjoy it.

If you ride at Harbison you have to ride Spiderwoman II. It is the most technical section Harbison has to offer. Too get a great workout ride Lost Creek, the outter loop, and Spider twice and I'm sure you will call it a day. For advanced riders 2 laps should take about about 2 1/2 hours. Best time to ride Harbison is when it is DRY. ENJOY THE RIDE!
