Trail Description:
The Ashland Watershed is a popular area for mountain bikers and hikers alike. The trail starts at Lithia Park in the center of town. You can make a challenging loop on service roads or turn off on some of the singletrack along the way. The first five miles are an extremely brutal climb, but the decent at the end makes it all worth while.
How to get there:
In Ashland go west on Ashland St. Turn right onto Siskiyou Blvd. After crossing Lithia Creek, turn left onto North Main. Then turn right onto Winburn Way. Follow Winburn to the parking area and trailhead.

Yes you can drive to the top of the Mt. I would not classify the non-ride up as "sitting on the couch". Far from it. You will want to bring your best downhill bike which sux for climbing unless you stay on the tame trails that the people that "earn it" most likely do. The downhill is amazing and constant. Varied options as the previous poster said.

I have heard of toothpick, can you access this trail from the top of mt a? I have ridden from the very top of mt a to town, it was Intense!!! I have no idea what trails i was on, but it was some high speed downhill with some good log rides. I did a nice drop off a log, then hiked backed up, then rode the log over to a built up small step down to flat!!
That place is capable of some big lines and highspeed, but could use some work to build some better trannies...

I've run these trails for the last 6-7 years and enjoy them. There's two choices for biking in Ashland: up and sitting on the couch. I prefer to not sit on the couch. So I climb up, and up, and up.... you can climb a vertical mile to the top of Mt. Ashland if you like. The rewards? Bull Gap. CatWalk. TimeWarp (oops, not suppose to reveal that 'once upon a time' trail). Tooth Pick. Caterpillar. Alice in Wonderland. Horn Gap. Hitt Road. BTI. White Rabbit. One can make a great (and exhausting) weekend here. Please respect the trails around here. Some hardcores are cutting the trails and giving the rest of us a bad name. I want to see my kids ride these trails. But if the abuse continues, will it last? In general, these trails are good: some better(excellent) and some so-so (fair). I'm looking for some of the unrevealed. Has anyone tried Buckhorn Springs? Anything over the pass? Colestin? Northern California has some potential, but info is lacking.

Time Warp Trail is the best there is anywhere, bar none! Hitt road ranks a near second, followed by Ostrich Peak. These trails I have mentioned are awesome.

this is a good ride, however far from brutal. Try Telluride, CO if you want brutal.
