A good cruising trail with both long and short climbs. The trail contours the lake for about 75% of the ride. It is not to technical, but has some narrows and washouts. Follow the Payette trail signs, some of which are hard to see, and stay close to the lake if in doubt. If the lake is full, a portage may be necessary at the Squaw Creek arm.

Follow the trail out 9 miles to its end and turn back or take the shorter 6 mile ride back along Hwy 238.

How to get there:
Follow Hwy. 238 out of Jacksonville 20 miles to Applgate Lake. Take a left turn at the dam, one mile to the first right turn and park in the lot. The Payette trail starts at the end of the parking area.
