Trail Description:
This ride is for serious mountain bikers only. 31 miles makes it a tough ride even though the gravel and dirt roads are kept in good condition. The ride takes you around Lake West and close to Three Lakes. It winds through typical northwest forests of evergreens. Not only is the ride long but it contains enough climbing to last you a week.... over 3,000 feet!
Ride back down FS 900 to FS 6530.
Take a right at the stop sign.
At 4 miles take a left on FS 760 toward Lake West. Turn left at sign (on the right) that reads "State Hwy. 230 - .25 miles.
Reach Hwy. and turn right on OR 230.
After .3 miles turn left at sign for South Umpua Road/FS 3703.
Pass road to Three Lakes (FS 400) at about 3 miles and then cross over Skookum Creek.
2 miles past Skookum Creek take left on Three Lakes Connector Road/FS 100.
Reach sign that reads Fish Creek Road/FS 37.
Turn left uphill onto FS 37. Go straight to top of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide.
Fish Creek Road changes form FS 37 to FS 6560.
A long descent on FS 6560 takes you across Muir Creek.
It is half a mile to OR 230 from Muir Creek. Cross OR 230 and follow FS 6530 to FS 900.
Take right on FS 900 and return to your vehicle.
How to get there:
From Prospect follow OR 62 north for 11 miles to OR 230. Stay left on OR 230 for nearly 12 miles to Haymaker Road/FS 6530 (on the left). Take Haymaker to FS 900. FS 900 takes you to Haymaker Campground. Park on the side of FS 900.
