An easy 9.5 mile ride through the United States "best and most diverse basaltic volcanic features."
Trail Description:
The contrast between the awesome power of the volcano and Mother Natures will to reclaim the scarred earth is amazing. Sage and desert brush is growing every where beyond the edge of the lava. Riding is on a four wheel drive cinder road.
From parking lot follow cinder road uphill. Stay left on main road. route is well marked with numbered signs and arrows. Follow markers to #10. Turn around and in .3 miles take a right hand turn an return to your car.
How to get there:
From Burns follow OR 78 east for 1.6 miles and take right on OR 205. Drive 40 miles to Diamond Junction. Take left onto Diamond Grain Camp Road/County Road 409. Follow this road for 6.7 miles and take left on Lava Beds Road/CR 404. Drive 2 miles and take left 1.4 miles after large sign that says Diamond Craters Outstanding natural area. This will put you in a hard packed cinder pull out. Trail heads east from hear.

While this area is spectacular in it's beauty, the loop is merely a jeep road(and in places soft and sandy) that goes from crater to crater that you share with trucks and van loads of tourists...this is not really much of a Mt Bike run!
