Ride Summary:
It's best to ride this trail in the early spring or late fall.
Trail Description:
This area is aptly named "Hell's Canyon" because it gets brutally hot in the summer. Climbing is at a minimum here, but the technical terrain will give you enough of a workout. There are dangerous drop offs and the trail can get overgrown with vegetation. Look out for poison ivy, rattle snakes, and tire puncturing thorns.
How to get there:
From Enterprise take OR 82 South to Joseph. Then go East on OR 350. When you reach Imnaha, turn left onto Imnaha Rd. Follow the signs for Thorn Creek. After about 19 miles you will reach Cow Creek Bridge. Park your car and find the trailhead just past the bridge (not across the bridge). The trail is marked trail #1713.
Note: The road to the trail can be extremely rough so use caution and plan accordingly.

Note - my rating is for scenery and perceived trail quality, since we didn't ride it...
Don't do this trail without slime tubes or other tube protection. We finally arrived at the trailhead (over a road that is MTB-able in itself), got prepped and psyched for the descent to the confluence of the Snake. We four-flatted within 100 yards, and had only two spare tubes. Ended up hiking it for several miles, but not all the way. Great canyon terrain, mountain goats, lots of birds, a couple of "buzzing" bushes. Returned to the trailhead for a wonderful brisk dip in the Imnaha river! Back at the campsite, I must have pulled 30 big thorns out of each tire.
