Trail Description:
Nice rolling hills with a few good climbs in a row at the front with fat chuck's demise

capping the last climb in the set. Off the lip is a nice two wheel roller coaster through

the rolling hills and creek surrounded by the piney woods. There are lots of combinations

of long gradual climbs and the accompanying downhills to switch backing up and down

the creek. Nice ride for a change of pace.

How to get there:
From Austin take I-35 South to Hwy 71. Go east on 71 towards Bastrop. Continue through Bastrop to Smithville Texas. Take the loop 230 exit and then turn left under 71, at this point you'll be on FM 153. Go 2.3 miles on FM153, you'll see the gate on the left. (There are some old bikes hanging on a pine gate.)

Additional Notes:
$6 a day to ride and camping is also available.

i love going to Rocky hill for a good bike race. Camping is fun to do there to even for the 24 hour race.

There are some exirting trails but to say there is something for everyone is false. There are a lot of climbs with rocky terrain which will wear you out fast. You can get trapped on trails that are more technical thamn you want. I will be back when I'm more fit.

If you are looking for one of Texas’ best mountain bike trails, look no further. RHR provides you with steep climbs, tight, fast single-track and faster downhills. From the start, RHR will let you know just how good of a climber you are (or aren’t) thanks to the multiple steep climbs of Fat Chuck’s Demise. If you don’t make it, don’t feel bad – just lay down next to Chuck’s headstone and admit defeat. For those wishing to avoid such craziness, there is a partial bypass known as Gray’s Way. Karaway follows, but isn’t anything to write home about; on the other hand, it does lead to Off the Lip, a parade of whoop-dee-do’s that wind in and out of a dry creek bed. If the Lip doesn’t put a huge smile on your face then you need to go faster or find another hobby. After the Lip, you hit the service road for a very short stretch until you reach Water Station 2 and on to Longhorn Loop. Longhorn Loop is followed by Tris Cross and both are nice stretches of single-track on your way to Omar

on your way to Omar’s Howl. The only catch with Omar’s Howl is that if there is water at the bridge either splash on in or carry your bike across the not-so-complete bridge (hopefully it’s fixed by my next ride). Right before Water Station 3 you have a choice, hit the service road back to the start or finish the rest of RHR. If you choose the latter, make sure you hit Y Knot?, it has the same effect as Off the Lip. Guaranteed! Towards the end is Black Trac, described as the grand finale of RHR, and rightfully so. Imagine the best of RHR all at once. Right before you think it’s all over you come to The Wall – think whoop-dee-do on crack. Between the multiple water stations, the optional 6, 9, 10, and 12 mile bailouts, and once upon a time a saloon, Rocky Hill has you covered. Like I said, RHR is one of Texas’ best trails…perhaps THE best. You name it, it has it – and what it has is oh so sweet.

Awsome trails. Plenty of diverse ups and downs. 16+ miles of single track. Plenty of climbs and fun fast down hills. Trail goes through heart of lost pines over creeks, meadows and hill country thicket. The trail is well marked.Four evenly dispersed water stations but keep camel back full the well runs dry quickly. Very challenging fun scenic workout. I look forward to a night ride one day.

we went 8/04/07 and the course was fantastic. Raring to go back especially when the trail is dry.
