Trail Description:
The Charlton trail is accessible both from Charlton Recreation area, north of highway 270, and from Crystal Springs recreation area, north of highway 270 on county road 124. The trail requires a bit of walking for those of us who can't yet navigate somewhat technical terrain, but offers a healthy jaunt in the woods for anyone seeking some fun. At no point is a rider 1 mile from a road or trailhead, and swimming is afforded by a pool in Walnut Creek at Charlton or in Lake Ouachita at Crystal Springs.

How to get there:
Charlton is 20 miles east of Hot Springs on Arkansas state highway 270. A few miles west of Charlton, riders may find county road 124 and ride to Crystal Springs if they do not wish to attempt the switchback ascent from Charlton. Parking is available and free at either end.

Additional Notes:
A loop can be made of the Charlton trail, county road 124 and highway 270.

This is a great warm-up trail before you ride Womble or others. Charlton is NOT a loop trail. DO NOT attempt to ride back to the campground via the highway. You will get flattened by a BIG TRUCK!Its a great out and back trail, technical, tight, great climbs, great decents. Stay at the small campground, not the one on the lake.
