Ride Summary:
A long ride with non technical terrain.

Trail Description:
Located in the Withlacoochee State Forest the Croom Section loop is almost all single track. It winds through trees and swamplands. The terrain is non technical enough that nearly any one can handle it. The ride length however, is another story. Novice riders can ride out a few miles and then turn back. pay attention to trail markers as there are several spur trails and it is easy to get lost in this area.

How to get there:
Follow I-75 to exit 61 which will deliver you to State Road 50. Head east on State Road 50 until you turn left at the first light on Croom Rital Road. Continue for 6 to 7 miles, it turns dirt, until you reach the forest ranger station. Park to the right of the station. The Swamp Club maintains this trail. You can contact them for more information at www.swampclub.org.

Croom is my favorite trail system in the Tampa Bay area. Boyette and Alafia to the south are more technical and offer bigger thrills for less effort but Croom is Huge and it has real hills with fun downhills that last more than a second or so. There's so much trail out there that's it's hard to get bored. Another thing is that Croom loves rain. When all the other local trails are too rain soaked to ride, head to Croom for a great ride. Conversely, avoid it if it's been dry for a while like during the drought months of the winter. It's just a sugar sand mess then.

This is where I learned to ride. Sure there is sugar sand..this is Florida! Where isn't there sugar sand. If you stay on the trails that the motocross bikes do not use...the sugar sand is in small doses and can be easily tolerate. The falling leaves and the falling pine needles coat the trails in alot of areas and keep the trail packed. Each time I go there is a suprise..a newly fallen tree or branch across the trail that you either jump or create a detour. Great hills! I love it! Swamp Club does great job!

I live 10 minutes from this area and ride there fairly often. Most of the trails are horribly sandy and flat. There is one large area that is fun and technical, but you'll have to ride all 60 miles of the trails to find it, cause I'm not telling.

This place is good if it rains otherwise might as well on clearwater beach (equal ammounts of sand, better scenery). Bring lots of water and a gps unless you know the trail system.I would recommend driving a little further to Santos for a much more pleasureable riding.

I just bought some land in the forest in croom and if anyfellow bikers go here besides the swamp club please contact me croomgator@yahoo.com.The trail that runs along the river is a easy trail and a way to see gators in the water.

This is where I started riding and I love it! We tried something new yesterday and hated it, so we headed up to Croom. I'm sure there are many more 'technical' places to go, but the sheer exertion that these trails offer your body is exhilerating! Many different combinations of rides are offered between the 2 main loops (yellow and blue)through the use of the red 'connectors'. I wish Croom was closer to home, but find it well worth the gas and the mouth full of spider webs the lead rider gets to choke down! Some of these webs sound like ripping nylon when you tear through them, yikes! Thanks Swamper's!C'ya there!

Hot in the pines and cool in the hammocks, quite sandy, but overall a great ride. Some rock pits and dense overgrowth make this a challenge/reward. Really to far to make it all in 1 day, which makes you wanna go back. The SWAMPer's are a great bunch(not a member, yet). Best to ride in a group - easy to get side trailed, bring lotsa water.
