Trail Description:
This trail is a local favorite. Its proximity to town allows quick access to one of the areas great rides. Phil's Loop is an excellent workout with some fabulous singletrack. You will also find some fast, exhilarating decents here. The trail is well marked with brown fiberglass signs designating the trail's direction.
How to get there:
In Bend, go West on Skyliner Rd. about 2.5 miles from town turn left onto FS road 4610. Look for the trailhead sign for Route 24.5

Phils Trails is the best riding in the whole north west. I lived there for 15 years and now im riding in washington and i want to move back just cause of the mt. biking. Phils connects to skyliners trails, the deschutes river trails and goes all the way up past Bachelor to loop around elks lake so if your into long rides, outstanding scenery, and some of the funnest short travel capable downhill hit these trails up. hundreds of miles worth of trails that you will never forget. Just make sure you get a map

don't worry about finding fs 4610 or whatever on a map. just drive east on skyliners, and at the roundabout at mt. washington drive, watch your odometer-- go about 1.5 miles and you'll see a paved road off to the left (marked by a bicycle symbol sign on the right). it is super easy to find. this is a great trail network for any level of rider. designed by dudes who love to ride, with all kinds of technical challenges and fun features (there's even a replica of one of bend's many traffic roundabouts!). you can extend your ride by connecting the trails (phil's trail also includes kent's trail and ben's trail.

Do yourself a favor and GO! Pick up a map at a bike shop for your second favor, and plan to do every single one of these trails, over a week long period. Something like 300 miles of trails? They drain fast after rain, and are just what mountain biking is all about.

Very fun trail. None of the uphill climbs are very strenous and the downhill is a blast. Looks like there is a huge network of trails here. I'm only giving it 4 rings because I don't care for the loose surface and sand on the trail, otherwise it would get 5 rings.

Lots of loops, good trails, marked
junctions. I recommend you get a
great map of all of Central Oregon
bike trails at any of the bike shops
(there are 3 shops within a block of
the Westside Bakery on Galveston
St.) Check out the high country rides
in the summer.

This is bar none the best trail system in Central Oregon. It may not be the most scenic, most aerobic or most technical, but it ranks in the top three in all those categories, which in my book puts it on top....especially when you throw in convenience. And it's not just 11 miles --- there are left turns, right turns and wrong turns, but none of them are a bad option. I cruised on this trail for two years in Bend and searched for a rental with only one thought in mind -- close proximity to Phil's. The only downside is that it starts turning to sand in August. Ride in the spring -- that means NOW!

Truly an incredible landmark trail which at this writing is in danger of being destroyed by ODOT so they can dig a gravel pit. Send a letter the ODOT's Bend office/Get in touch w/ The Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA)for more info....Save Phil's Trail!!!
