Trail Description:
Early settlers laid more than three miles of logs through the wet and marshy sections of this trail long ago. Many of the remains can still be seen today. This trail is well maintained and has several easy to read signs.

From parking area turn left to cross bridge.

Head up Tenderfoot Wagon Trail #1819.

Go straight where faint trail FS 143 goes right.

Cross boggy section and hit Y intersection. Take Tenderfoot Wagon Trail.

Take left at Big Sheep Cutoff Trail #1819.1.

Cross 3 bridges over Big Sheep Creek and pass coral before turning left on FS 100.

FS 100 takes you to paved road FS 39.

Go right and descend for half a mile to FS 40.

FS 40 is hard to spot. Look for it after passing FS 134 on right.

Go left on FS 140 and immediately take left on FS 23. FS 23 is also easy to miss. If you hit FS 170 you have gone to far.

Follow road to large boulders that block access to this road. Pass boulders and descend.

Then take hard right and cross bridge over Big Sheep Creek.

Push your bike across clearing and take right when you come to the road.

Road is steep and stay right on FS 23.

Stay on main road when another road comes in from the left. At 2,2 miles you'll hit a T intersection. Take left on FS 25. Follow to main road, stay left to FS 39 at Salt Creek Summit.

Cross paved road to your car.

How to get there:
From Joseph go east on OR 350. turn right on FS 39/Wallowa Mountain Road. FS 39 is about 8 miles from Joseph. Drive 9.5 miles to Salt Creek Summit and take right on FS 3290/Canal Road. Park here on left.

This trail goes through an old burn. There's always blown down logs across the trail, even if it's been cleard that summer. It has good views of the Seven Devils Mtns and the area around Joseph. It's worth the ride.
