How to get there:
From Winthrop head east on State Route 20, following the signs to the airport. Stay on the north side of the Methow River. Do not cross the bridge. Turn left on Bakke Hill Road at the six mile mark. Follow to Beaver Creek road and turn left. Its three miles to the Beaver Creek Campground. Go beyond campground to Forest Service Road 4225, the Loop Loop Summit Road and into the Okanogan National Forest. Park inside campground by the gate at the end of the road.

Lightning Creek makes a great loop. Start at Beaver creek camp ground and climb on F. S. roads to the top of Lightning Creek Trail then the sweet decent on 8 miles great single track.

This is a long ride if you do the whole loop from the trailhead. A long hard climb but worth the effort for the 12 or so miles of rolling and fast downhill that follow. Plan on about four hours for the loop.

Also try the Middle Fork Beaver Creek trail. Less traveled and good bang for the buck.

Lightning Creek portion of trail has serious sand traps combined with rock gardens and sidehill exposure. Be prepared to ford Lightning Creek twice - creekbed too rough for riding due to spring flooding. With all the trails in Winthrop, why waste your time on this one?
