Trail Description:
A good place to start is the short connector trail and Ice Age Loop. Start with a short 1-mile trail that leads to the loop. This trail is a slow, steady climb. Once you get to the loop, pick your direction and ride.
You'll see some nice views on the South side of the loop from the cliffs. Another highlights are some rollercoaster singletrack.
There are lots of other trails here too so ride around and have fun.
How to get there:
From Baraboo, head South on HWY 123 about 2 miles. You'll see the park enterance and information center. Park near the beach and start riding.

This trail has some potential. Ive been to Lake 4 or 5 times and its awesome as a park in general. Very pretty, cool rock formations, good hiking, and an overall cool place to spend the day. The mountain bike trail lacks that same overall high quality everything else the park has. There are few tough climbs, a few single track spots but the erosion is what ruins the trail. There are giant divots every where which make it more or less frustrating than fun and challenging. There also is only one main trail that is meant for mountain biking. If I was to guess, Id say its about 6 miles long, 2 miles of it is really fun, 2 completely, and 2 are so so. Overall Id say lake is a great place, but i wouldn't recommend going if you're only planning on biking for the day. If you mix biking, hiking, and running on the other hand, could be the place for you.

The Uplands Trail on the other hand is challenging, with about a 1/2 mile of rough & fast downhill halfway up the ascent to the top of the bluff. Then a fast & rather uneventful trip back to the parking lot on Cty DL. Don't take the inner loop, take the Uplands Trail loop. Big difference. It's about 4.2 miles.

If you have never ridden a bike in your life this may be a good start. Anyone else will get really bored really fast.

It's a boring loop. Especially when you see how much terrain is there.
However, If you want great climbs and downhills, bring your road bike. There is about 800 feet of elevation change between Merrimac and Devil's Lake.
