Trail Description:
There are two loops and I hear a third will be constructed. The Torn Shirt loop is just over 5 miles long. It's a nice dirt ribbon of singletrack that is fairly technical at times. Most riders will consider this an advanced ride. This shouldn't be taken that it's unrideable for less seasoned bikers. Give it shot.

The Murray Lake Trail is a more moderate ride. Traveling between 7 and 9 miles long (depending on which loops you take), it's a longer ride that will still challenge better riders at times. A great day of riding would include doing each trail twice.

Both trails are marked and easy to follow.

How to get there:
West on I-96 to Exit 147, through Brighton app. 6 miles to Chilson Road, south on Chilson to Park HQ, then east on Bishop Lake Road to the Trail Head.

Additional Notes:
Brighton is a close drive from Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Flint.

rode both trails late July '11 - lotsa fun -good workout. A little too much sand & screed in certain areas which prevent a good "flow". Torn shirt has some scary descents where tech skills (and good brakes) are required. Also some long climbs which I bombed on - have to go again!

I only rode the torn shirt trail and had a good time. I am not a super advanced rider so miles 1-2.5 gave me a hard time, but a fun challenge. I am excited to try Murray lake. Is it similar? Differences?

This trail system has improved alot. The trails are marked very well. I would recommend this trail to anyone. This is not a beginner trail.

Horribly posted park, no signs to the trailhead....however once you find it you will not be disappointed. Both trails are for the fit. Murray is described to be moderate, really I would rate this moderate+. Highland and Pontiac are locals rated more advanced. Lots of climbs and good downhill sections that will keep you enterained. Plentiful logs to bunnyhop over. Sometimes you will be asking where the trail is heading, again they need to post better signs. Torn Shirt has the same amount of enjoyment and really will get your heartrate pumping. All in all....best locally, not crowded and great fun.

Murray lake trail is another good place to ride a single speed. Torn shirt is a bit tough to climb in 32/16, there are a lot of climbs that have 'momentum robbers' at the bottom like sharp turns full of sand and gravel. All around a nice somewhat challenging trail. Murray lake trail is a single speeders dream, fast, rolling single track, and not too crowded.

I ride Torn shirt and Murray lake 1 to 2 times a week (close to my house) Murray is very fun and fast the Lost Loop which is part of the Murray Lake trail is very similar to parts of Torn shirt which is very twisty and somewhat techincal. Miles 1 thru 3 on Torn Shirt will give just about any rider a good work out. It takes about 90 min to ride both loops.
