Trail Description:
There are two loops and I hear a third will be constructed. The Torn Shirt loop is just over 5 miles long. It's a nice dirt ribbon of singletrack that is fairly technical at times. Most riders will consider this an advanced ride. This shouldn't be taken that it's unrideable for less seasoned bikers. Give it shot.

The Murray Lake Trail is a more moderate ride. Traveling between 7 and 9 miles long (depending on which loops you take), it's a longer ride that will still challenge better riders at times. A great day of riding would include doing each trail twice.

Both trails are marked and easy to follow.

How to get there:
West on I-96 to Exit 147, through Brighton app. 6 miles to Chilson Road, south on Chilson to Park HQ, then east on Bishop Lake Road to the Trail Head.

Additional Notes:
Brighton is a close drive from Detroit, Lansing, Ann Arbor and Flint.

This trail system has improved alot. The trails are marked very well. I would recommend this trail to anyone. This is not a beginner trail.

Horribly posted park, no signs to the trailhead....however once you find it you will not be disappointed. Both trails are for the fit. Murray is described to be moderate, really I would rate this moderate+. Highland and Pontiac are locals rated more advanced. Lots of climbs and good downhill sections that will keep you enterained. Plentiful logs to bunnyhop over. Sometimes you will be asking where the trail is heading, again they need to post better signs. Torn Shirt has the same amount of enjoyment and really will get your heartrate pumping. All in all....best locally, not crowded and great fun.

Murray lake trail is another good place to ride a single speed. Torn shirt is a bit tough to climb in 32/16, there are a lot of climbs that have 'momentum robbers' at the bottom like sharp turns full of sand and gravel. All around a nice somewhat challenging trail. Murray lake trail is a single speeders dream, fast, rolling single track, and not too crowded.

I ride Torn shirt and Murray lake 1 to 2 times a week (close to my house) Murray is very fun and fast the Lost Loop which is part of the Murray Lake trail is very similar to parts of Torn shirt which is very twisty and somewhat techincal. Miles 1 thru 3 on Torn Shirt will give just about any rider a good work out. It takes about 90 min to ride both loops.

Loved Torn Shirt. It is very challenging. Hills, rocks, trees, chipmunks all over the place. More hills. More hills. Everyone should ride this trail at least once. Make sure your brakes are working well and bring plenty of water--you'll need it. Make sure you insurance is paid up.

I just rode this one for the first time. Very rutted out, lots of sand in the turns. Some great sweeping switchbacks and fast drops. I like Poto and Pontiac lake best as well as mayburry. This place is pretty good, I only rode the torn shirt loop since i read up on it being the more extreme of the 2. Its a great ride with some big cliimbing hills that can make use of anyones very smallest gear ratio. The hills are so gravel and rocj covered that on many I found myself running my bike up on foot because my tire kept skidding out. Have fun and wear a helmet!

It ‘rocks’ when you enjoy a good trail. Say, have you checked out the Trail Advocacy link just on the left listed under the Trail Guides heading? Please remember it’s only as good as the effort that’s put into making it that way and it can disappear tomorrow. Please do your part. Thanks

There is a need to rename (correct) the location of this trail from Detroit to Brighton, MI. It is 47 mile and nearly an hour drive from Detroit. (20min drive from A2 and about an hour from Lansing)

I love this trail! The torn shirt loop is tougher than usual this season because of all the rain we got at the beginning of the summer. The erosion makes some of the climbs brutal and the plant growth makes it hard to see the trail in spots. The Murray Lake loop is easier than the torn shirt but it is still challenging in parts. If you like the Poto but don't feel like dealing with the weekend crowds, this trail is a good substitute. There will usually be other riders there, but not like the Poto.
