Trail Description:
If you like steep, technical climbs and descents, this is the place for you. The trails can be compared to ski area trails for steepness. Very rocky in most areas.
Basically there is one trail which encircles the reservoir. There are a few sections where there are a couple choices.
This is not a fun ride for the novice and make sure you've got good brakes!
You can ride around the entire lake but about 3 miles will be on paved roads.
How to get there:
From Route 22 or 78, look for signs to Round Valley State park. There is an entrance fee at the main entrance during the summer. There is a secondary entrance at the South East end of the park with no entrance fee.
Additional Notes:
There has been a nesting pair of bald eagles at the lake for the past few years. If you are lucky y

I just bought mtn bike and went to RV entering from the Old Mtn entrance. I run there all the time. I ended up walking many of the uphills and dismounting to get past the fallen trees. I finished the entire ride but I cant help wondering: "should I have purchased a full suspension bike vs the hardtail 29er I got? Would love some feedback on whether a full suspension is necessary for most NJ trail riding. Regarding RV, I would say that it's not for beginners unless you like walking and are in great shape. However, it is a place to challenge yourself.

I have been riding in NJ for 20 years. Trust me RV has the most intense climbs in the region. If you like your trails groomed and rolling go soemwhere else.

i have been riding for years on many trials. cross country, single track, dirt jumps and downhill. i love round valley because of its variety of terrain.it is not for the neebie or anyone that is not in top shape. awsome single track and downhill areas but uphill is gruesome.top notch trail.

Best all around trails. Lived there for 7 years. Best technical trails to be on. Not for faint at heart. Must be in shape and skilled to go the distance. Definately go to the end, the trail is worth the pedaling.

Round Valley is quite challenging. When I'm in good shape I love the place. When I'm out of practice/shape, It's not so much fun, but even then I can appreciate it. solid climbs, tight technical trails and rock strewn downhills which you can definitely haul a$$ down with the right skillset. I find parking in the dirt lot at the end of old mtn rd on the other side of the resavoir to be a better ride. You have to start out with a long tough climb, but going that way all the way around is a good ride with a few miles on the road at the end as a cool down.

dont be fooled by the way it sounds! People make it sound like it is challenging, its just plain suc*s! there are no real maps of the park so if its your first time plan on gettin lost. a complete trip arond the lake will take you about 5 hours and youll be dead by time you get back. the trails were not fun, they were anoying, they seemed more like dear trails with constant trees in the way constantly dismounting your bike. the downhills are too rocky to go fast and there seem to be mostly uphill, so if you like going slow this may be the place for you. maybe i didnt hit the right trails or whatever but i will not waste my time to come back and find out, this was the worst trail and most unfun ive ever had, and ive been doing it for a while

it is fun, dont get me wrong. long climbs, with loose rocks and sticks underneith. long rides down with lots of loose rocks and sticks. not a very well maintained trail. i dont think you could really compare it to out west. good sustained climbs and fun downs.

after riding technical trails like the rock and s-land, r valley offers a different ride. It is the closest thing to riding out west, offering long arduous climbs followed by extended downhills that are worth a holler. You can take some detours along the way that offer some tight meandering DH, located near power line section. Lots of pedalling and pain but well worth it
