Trail Description:
Its just an enjoyable relaxing ride around Clear Lake. This ride is definitely suited for the beginner, but everyone can enjoy the ride and scenery.
How to get there:
Clear Lake is off Hwy 18 in north central Iowa. From Des Moines it's a 113 mile drive north on I-35.

Actually there is some single track, but you have to
look for it carefully and it is not well maintained. I
recommend starting in town and going clockwise
around the lake. Stay on the roads that are closest
to the lake at all times or you'll miss the entrance.
The trail head is at the very end of SouthShore drive
(actually it turns into 240th). 240th will turn into a
gravel road that comes to a dead end. At this dead
end you'll find a rather overgrown dirt trail. Follow
this and keep as close to the lake as possible. It
will take you about 4miles along the shore. Lots of
overgrown weeds, but it is much better than going
all the way around the state part to far south on the
road (well...if you like dirt anyway :). The trail ends
at 242nd street about 4miles to the west. You can
then take 242nd to Balsam Ave and north to
complete the loop around the lake on pavement
(about 14mi around the whole lake). I wouldn't
make a special tr

This is not a mountain biking trail! Waste of time if you're a off road rider, nice ride if you're a road rider but you'll have to add in a trip to the wind farm and maybe start from Mason City in order to get any mileage in... Sheesh
