Trail Description:
Fountain Head is a great workout. It's not overly long at 6 miles so you may want to ride it a couple times. It has a few tough up hills(nothing huge just more steep and rooty), but with up hills come great downhills.
How to get there:
From the intersection at Lee Chapel and Ox road(123)turn right off of Lee Chapel onto Ox. Follow it for approximatly 1.5 to 2 miles until you get to Hampton Road. (you will see a brown, rectangular sign that says "Fountain Head Regional Park" right before the turn.) Follow hampton road until you reach the park about 3 miles later. It will be on the left. Go down the park road until you reach the parking lot. Park your car, unload your bike, and start riding.

I love this trail. I have been familiar with it for about two years. It is a lot of fun but you shouldn't be a beginner. It has of twists and turns with loads of roots. Lots of hill climbs and helmets are required. Watch out for sudden rocks in the middle of the trail. Loads of fun and you should definitely come check it out with a few friends.

Best trail in NOVA. Not for beginners and is closed
some times after rains. Check the website before you
go.

Excellent ride! We did the loop today, and it started pouring half way around. Man, the roots really come alive when it's wet. No beginners at this place.

Been riding this trail sinceit opened. Great workout. Changes are afoot. Looks like 3 skill levels will be available after the trail is reconfigured. Very similar to ratings on a ski slope. Looking forward to the changes. Keep the rubber side down.

To me one of the best single track in Fairfax County.
Expect... roots (but still very fast), lots of turns, some small technical hills.
I advise to wear clip on pedals (otherwise the roots will make you loose a lot of your energy)
Tires shouldn't be inflated too hard ( 35 to 40 psi)
And make sure you don't have your saddle set too high and too far back...or you won't make it up the hills.

This is a great trail - have been riding it for most of the summer. It's not for beginners (as stated before) but easier than other places I have been. I still take my share of spills though. As for NOVA - I think it's the best place going!

It is a good trail but not for the beginners. It has a lot of burly roots and it is full of other obstacles. You definetly don't have time to relax. Its a good work out you must be in shape. Helmets are required at this park. It took me 1 hour to ride.

Great trails, just under 9 miles with the new loops added. (three including the dead end loop. Nothing too technical, intermediate to advanced riders will enjoy all. New loop in middle adds a decent climb. One piece of advise: when presented with the signs, "expert" and "alternate", the alternate trail has erroded and is much harder to decend. Trust me. There were two good races there this year, come check it out but leave your beginner buddies at home.

Very good trail that is about 4 mi loop and very well maintained. Probably the best in N. VA. Very curvey, mostly single t, not fast. Not extremely technical and no logs no huge jumps. Not for beginners though. All avid mt. bikers should definately visit.
